Corona Confinement – The Big Q: #2

March 18, 2020

The Day in Rude Awakenings: Just a few days into the Big Q and I was awoken by a dream. I was standing someplace and a few people showed up, then too many people showed up. I started to protest (I can’t keep quiet even when I dream). Then I did that jumpy exit from sleep, feeling like I was midway through some dramatic flailing of my arms. It took me a second to come to my senses. I think I don’t need a psychic to know I got Covid on the brain.

The Day In Birthdays: I woke up bright and early to Facebook telling me what friends had birthdays. Happy Birthday greetings seem equally necessary and ridiculous. I went with “Happy Quarantined Birthday…At least you don’t have to share the cake.” I will revisit this with my March birthday friends next year.

The Day in Gloom, but Not Doom: Yesterday the sun shone brightly over OTR. Today, clouds, misty rain ruled the weather. Weirdly, I saw just one flash of lightening and heard one clap of thunder, like Mother Nature is self rationing special effects. Definitely easier to remain indoors on a day like today.

The Day at the Zoo: Silil the Ocelot at 3. Ahh! Home Safari is live on Facebook every week day at 3 pm.

Sihil the Ocelot
I watched Sihil eat a frozen mouse. Good times! (Photo is from the Cincinnati Zoo…they usually watermark their stuff)

The Day in TP Watch: I finished a roll of Toilet Paper today. I regret now not taking more careful notes when installed that initial roll. I need data to determine how much hoarding I have to do. Kidding, I can ride out several weeks provided my intestines don’t work against me. (Send positive thoughts to my intestines, y’all!)

The Day in the Day’s Routine: Still working on how to put some structure in my day. I’m almost afraid to do all the domestic tasks on my list because once they are finished, then what? I live by myself. Once I’m caught up, it stays that way for a long time.

One thing I can and will do is exercise. I’m trying to use my 5 and 10 pound weights in a routine I like to call “I will be able to easily open the pickles.” I want to be able to plank for 2 minutes by the time this is all over…I’m up to 1 minute, a very shaky 1 minute, but it counts. Yoga starting tomorrow (I say boldly tonight).

Another thing I can do and will do is word puzzles. I do the NY Times crossword puzzle while drinking my coffee and they have a Spelling Bee game (sometimes known as wordhub) that I’m obsessed with.

The Day in my Miniature Collection: I got nothing but time to pose all the miniature figurines. Today…Ninja Turtle.

Updated by the CDC at Noon Today from data collected yesterday at 4 pm

COVID-19: U.S. at a Glance*

  • Total cases: 7,038
  • Total deaths: 97
  • Jurisdictions reporting cases: 54 (50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and US Virgin Islands)

* Data include both confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 reported to CDC or tested at CDC since January 21, 2020, with the exception of testing results for persons repatriated to the United States from Wuhan, China and Japan. State and local public health departments are now testing and publicly reporting their cases. In the event of a discrepancy between CDC cases and cases reported by state and local public health officials, data reported by states should be considered the most up to date.

  1. I too am now keenly aware of when I’ve finished a roll of toilet paper! So glad to find out you have a place where you do even more writing than you do on facebook 🙂
